مع التطورات التكنولوجية اختفت الكثير من الأشياء المستخدمة في حياتنا اليومية واستبدلت بأغراض محدثة عنها وأحد هذه الأشياء التي ترمز لعصر ما قبل الكهرباء «لمبه الجاز».
قبل اختراع الكهرباء كان شائع استخدام لمبات الجاز للإضاءة في المنازل والشوارع وكان هناك شخص مكلف بإنارتها في الشوارع قرب غروب الشمس يحمل شعلة ويصعد بسلم خشبي لينير أعمدة الإضاءة التي كانت تعمل بالزيت ، أما في المنازل فكانت تُضاء عن طريق حرق الوقود السائل "الجاز" داخل فتيلة مما ينتج عنه ضوء.
كانت توفر لمبات الجاز إضاءة جيدة نسبياً مقارنة بالأنواع الأخرى المتاحة في ذلك الوقت والوقود المستخدم فيها متوفر ورخيص نسبياً ، وصغيرة الحجم وسهلة الحمل والتنقل.
ولا تخلو الأشياء من العيوب فكانت خطرة ، حيث أنها قابلة للإشتعال وتتطلب التعامل بحذر لتجنب الحرائق وكان ينتج عنها دخاناً ورائحة كريهة أثناء الإحتراق ، وكان سطوع الضوء متذبذباً وغير ثابت ، وتحتاج إلى تنظيف منتظم وتغيير الفتائل والوقود.
ومع ظهور الكهرباء وانتشارها قلت أهمية لمبات الجاز وتدريجياً توقف استخدامها.

With technological advancements, many everyday items have disappeared and been replaced by updated versions, One such item, symbolizing the pre-electricity era, is the "kerosene lamp."
Before the invention of electricity, kerosene lamps were commonly used for lighting homes and streets.
There were individuals tasked with lighting street lamps near sunset. They would carry a torch, climb a wooden ladder, and light the oil-fueled lampposts. In homes, kerosene lamps were lit by burning liquid fuel (kerosene) inside a wick, producing light.
Kerosene lamps offered relatively good lighting compared to other available options at the time, and the fuel was readily available and inexpensive. They were also small, portable, and easy to carry.
However, no item is without its drawbacks. Kerosene lamps were flammable and required careful handling to prevent fires. They produced smoke and an unpleasant odor during combustion, and the light intensity was fluctuating and inconsistent. Regular cleaning, wick replacement, and refueling were necessary.
With the advent and widespread use of electricity, kerosene lamps became less important and gradually fell out of use.
