وهي كلمة تعني قارب أو مركب خشبي شراعي تقليدي صغير الحجم ، يستخدم في الصيد أو التنقل لمسافات قصيرة في المياه الضحلة ، وتتميز ببساطة تصميمها وجمال شكلها مما جعلها جذابة للكثيرين.

البعض يرجع أن الكلمة ذات أصل عربي ومشتقة من كلمة "فلك" والتي تعني سفينة بشكل عام ؛ والبعض الأخر يشير أن الكلمة مستعارة من لغة أخرى مثل الفارسية أو اليونانية ، وأنه تم انتقالها إلى العربية عبر التجارة والتبادل الثقافي .
وانتشرت بشكل واسع في العديد من المناطق الساحلية في العالم العربي ، خاصة في مصر وبلدان الخليج العربي ؛ ولكن مع تطور وسائل النقل البحري الحديثة قل استخدامها بشكل كبير وأصبحت تستخدم بشكل أساسي في السياحة والترفية.
