Dondurma: A Frozen Delight with Ancient Roots

Dondurma, a traditional Turkish ice cream, is a word derived from the Turkish term "dondurma," meaning "frozen." This delightful treat found its way into Arabic cultures during the expansion of the Ottoman Empire.

Classically prepared with boiled milk, sugar, and aromatic spices like mastic or mahleb, dondurma is then frozen at low temperatures, resulting in a unique, chewy texture. Traditionally, it was sold from simple wooden carts with three wheels, often adorned with vibrant colors and designs to attract children.

In some regions, dondurma became known as "bouza," and its popularity soared during summer months and festive occasions. Over time, while many traditions evolve and adapt, dondurma has managed to retain its charm and remains a beloved treat, connecting people to their cultural heritage.

With the passage of time, things become less significant, undergo modifications, and may eventually vanish, leaving behind only words that carry their essence.
