The Hero of Popular Resistance «Muhammad Karim»

Born and raised in Alexandria, Muhammad Karim earned the respect and admiration of the city's people before assuming the role of governor.

As the governor of Alexandria prior to the French campaign, Muhammad Karim was distinguished by his popularity, wisdom, and political awareness.

These qualities enabled him to make sound decisions during times of crisis and to always be at the forefront of battles. His resistance was not merely a reaction to invasion but stemmed from his belief in his people's right to freedom and independence.

After Napoleon declared war on Egypt, Muhammad Karim was among the first to organize popular resistance. Thanks to his influential personality within the city, he was able to rally popular support and led his forces in battles against the French. He employed guerrilla warfare tactics to confuse the enemy, launching surprise attacks on French forces and then quickly retreating.

Muhammad Karim succeeded in uniting the Egyptian ranks from all social classes, making the resistance stronger and more organized.

Nevertheless, the French managed to capture him. Napoleon tried to persuade him to cooperate, but Karim refused and was sentenced to death by firing squad in 1798.

After his martyrdom while defending his homeland, Muhammad Karim became a symbol of sacrifice in the hearts of Egyptians. He was not only a military leader but also a wise statesman whose memory is immortalized and serves as an inspiration for Egyptians in their struggle for the nation and for many revolutions and resistance movements in Egypt's history.
