الشاعر اليوناني المتميز الذي استطاع عكس هموم عصره الشاعر «قسطنطين كفافيس»
ولد قسطنطين كفافيس في مصر عام 1863 ، لأسره يونانية استقرت في الإسكندرية في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر .
عاش كفافيس حياته كلها في الإسكندرية "فيما عدا بضع سنوات من طفولته قضاها ف لندن حتي عادت به أسرته ف سن التاسعه"
وعمل موظفاً بسيطاً لدى الحكومة المصرية في وزارة الأشغال العامة ، وهو ما منحه الوقت الكافي للتفرغ لشغفه بال الشعر والأدب وظل بهذه الوظيفة حتى تقاعده ووفاته وهو في سن السبعين في سنة 1933 ؛ حيث دُفن في الإسكندرية.
واليوم يحمل الشارع الذي عاش فيه اسمه وتحولت شقته إلى متحف، بالرغم من أنه عاش عمره كاملاً في الإسكندرية إلا أنه عاش أجنبياً يونانياً منغلقاً على التاريخ اليوناني والروماني القديم والإرث الأدبي والأسطوري لتلك الثقافة.
ويعتبر أيضاً شاعر يوناني واحد من أعظم شعراء اليونان المعاصرين وتميز شعره بعمق الفكر وجمال العبارة وقد ترجم إلى لغات عديدة وحظي بإعجاب النقاد والقراء على حد سواء.

The distinguished Greek poet Constantine Cavafy, who masterfully captured the anxieties of his time
Constantine Cavafy was born in Egypt in 1863 to a Greek family that had settled in Alexandria in the early nineteenth century.
Cavafy spent his entire life in Alexandria, except for a few years of his childhood when he lived in London until his family returned when he was nine. He worked as a humble clerk for the Egyptian government in the Ministry of Public Works, a position that afforded him ample time to indulge his passion for poetry and literature.
He held this position until his retirement and death at the age of seventy in 1933, and was buried in Alexandria.
Today, the street where he lived bears his name, and his apartment has been transformed into a museum. Despite living his entire life in Alexandria, he lived as a Greek foreigner, immersed in ancient Greek and Roman history and the literary and mythological heritage of that culture.
He is also considered one of the greatest modern Greek poets. His poetry is characterized by its depth of thought and beauty of expression, and it has been translated into numerous languages, earning him the admiration of critics and readers alike.
