أبرز رواد الأدب العربي الحديث الذي وصفه النُقاد بأنه "رائد المسرح الذهني" الروائي و الكاتب المسرحي «توفيق الحكيم» الذي جعل الدراما نوعًا أدبيًا محترمًا و استطاع أن ينال مكانه خاصة في قلوب قرَّائه.

وُلد مؤسس الدراما المصرية المعاصرة في 9 أكتوبر 1898 بالإسكندرية انتقل مع أعمامه إلى القاهرة لمواصلة دراسته الثانوية مما سهل عليه الذهاب لمسرح "جورج أبيض" ومن تردده عليه شعر بإنجذاب إلى الفن المسرحي .

وأثناء دراساته العليا بباريس حيث اطلع هناك على الأدب العالمي خاصًة اليوناني والفرنسي ؛ فترك دراسة القانون واتجه إلى الأدب المسرحي والروائي.

اتسم كتاباته الأدبية بالتنوع والثراء ، والتي كانت نحو 100 مسرحية و62 كتابًا ، ومن أهم أعماله "عودة الروح" و"أهل الكهف"و"بجماليون" و"شهرزاد"

وأُصدرت أولى مسرحياته "أهل الكهف" عام 1933.

حصل الحكيم على قلادة الجمهورية من الرئيس جمال عبد الناصر، ونال جائزة الدولة التقديرية في الآداب، ووسام العلوم والفنون من الدرجة الأولى.

وتُوفي رائد المسرح الذهني في 26 يوليو 1987 بالقاهرة.

The most prominent pioneer of modern Arabic literature, described by critics as the “pioneer of mental theater,” was the novelist and playwright Tawfiq al-Hakim, who made drama a respected literary genre and was able to gain a special place in the hearts of his readers.

The founder of contemporary Egyptian drama was born on October 9, 1898 in Alexandria. He moved with his uncles to Cairo to continue his secondary studies, which made it easy for him to go to the “George Abyad” theater, and those who frequented it felt attracted to theatrical art.

During his postgraduate studies in Paris, where he learned about world literature, especially Greek and French; He left the study of law and turned to theatrical and fictional literature.

His literary writings were characterized by diversity and richness, which included about 100 plays and 62 books. Among his most important works are “The Return of the Soul,” “The People of the Cave,” “Pygmalion,” and “Scheherazade.”

His first play, “People of the Cave,” was published in 1933.

Al-Hakim received the Medal of the Republic from President Gamal Abdel Nasser, and won the State Award of Appreciation in Literature, and the Medal of Sciences and Arts, First Class.

The pioneer of mental theater died on July 26, 1987 in Cairo.
