من أهم الشخصيات السكندرية التي لا تُنسى أسطورة الجودو «محمد رشوان»
وُلد الأسطورة في ١٩٥٦م بمحافظة الإسكندرية بدأ حياته الرياضية مع كرة السلة حتى بدأ ممارسة الجودو وهو في السادس عشر من عمره ؛ وقام بالمشاركة في بطولة الجمهورية للجودو تحت ١٨ عامًا وفاز بها.
وتتابعت مشاركته في البطولات ؛ حيث شارك في أول بطولة دولية عام ١٩٧٥م في تشيكوسلوفاكيا ثم أسبانيا ، وأوروبا وآسيا وأفريقيا.
وحصل الأسطورة على عدة جوائز أهمهم "جائزة الأخلاق الرياضية" في أولمبياد لوس أنجلوس بعد أن رفض إستغلال منافسه الياباني "ماشيتا" في النهائي حيث أنه تعرض لإصابة بقدمه فلم يستغلها رشوان حتى يفوز بالميدالية الذهبية بل اكتفى بالفضية لتفوز أخلاقه ونال إعجابًا وشعبيه في اليابان.
وحصل على العديد من الميداليات بأنواعها ؛ في ١٩٨٠م نال الميدالية البرونزية في بطولة العالم العسكرية ، والذهبية في بطولة أفريقيا في الوزن الثقيل والمفتوح عامي ١٩٨٢ : ١٩٨٣م ، وأيضًا الفضية في أولمبياد لوس أنجلوس عام ١٩٨٤م.
وكان من نصيبه أيضًا جائزة اللعب النظيف ١٩٨٥م ، وجائزة أحسن خلق رياضي في العالم من اللجنة الأولمبية الدولية.
و قد تم منحه الوسام الإمبراطوري عام ٢٠١٩ م من قِبل إمبراطورية اليابان وهو من أرفع الأوسمة التي قد يحصل عليها رياضي.
وأصبح حكمًا دوليًا في اللعبة وعضوًا في اللجنة الفنية لإتحاد الجودو بعد أن اعتزل اللعبة عام ١٩٩٢ م.

One of Alexandria's most unforgettable figures is the judo legend, Mohamed Rashwan.
The legend was born in 1956 in Alexandria. He began his athletic career with basketball before taking up judo at the age of sixteen. He participated in and won the Egyptian National Judo Championship for under-18s.
His participation in tournaments continued, with his first international tournament in 1975 in Czechoslovakia, followed by competitions in Spain, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The legend received several awards, most notably the "Sportsmanship Award" at the Los Angeles Olympics. This award was given after he refused to exploit his Japanese opponent, Machita, in the final. Machita had suffered a foot injury, but Rashwan didn't use this to win the gold medal. Instead, he settled for silver, demonstrating his sportsmanship and earning him admiration and popularity in Japan.
He won numerous medals of various types. In 1980, he won the bronze medal at the World Military Championships, and the gold medal at the African Championships in the heavyweight and open weight categories in 1982 and 1983. He also won the silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
He was also awarded the Fair Play Award in 1985 and the World Sportsmanship Award by the International Olympic Committee.
In 2019, he was awarded the Imperial Order of the Order of the Empire of Japan, one of the highest honors an athlete can receive.
After retiring from competition in 1992, he became an international referee and a member of the technical committee of the Judo Federation.
