With the Islamic conquests in Persia, many Persian words transitioned into the Arabic language due to cultural and commercial interactions between Arabs and Persians. One such word that found its place in Arabic was "dukan."

In Persian, the word "dukan" meant "shop," and it appeared in many Arabic dictionaries with the meaning of "store" or "shop." The term was widely used across Arab countries to refer to small retail stores, especially those located in residential neighborhoods or traditional markets.

The word "dukan" also appeared in Arabic poetry as early as the pre-Islamic and Islamic eras. An example of this is the verse by the poet Jarir:

"Lagad zal dukkānu alladhīna taḥammalū"

("The shop of those who departed has vanished.")

Furthermore, the term was used in various Arabic literary works over the centuries, such as Al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh by Ibn al-Athir and Lisan al-Arab by Ibn Manzur.

Despite its long history, the word "dukan" remains widely used in modern Arabic, demonstrating its continuity and vitality in everyday language.
