في قلب مدينة البحر، يقف مسرح سيد درويش شاهدًا على أكثر من قرن من الإبداع والثقافة.
هذا الصرح العظيم لم يكن مجرد مبنى، بل كان ولا يزال مساحة تتنفس فيها الموسيقى، ويُرفع عليها الستار ليبدأ سحر الفن.
عام 1862 أُقيم في نفس الموقع أحد أهم مسارح القرن التاسع عشر، وكان يمتلكه بدر الدين قرداحي، والذي استقبل كبار الفنانين والفرق العالمية. وبعد سنوات من العطاء، هُدم المسرح القديم عام 1907، ليبدأ حلم جديد أكثر فخامة.
وفي عام 1921، افتُتح المبنى الحالي تحت اسم تياترو محمد علي، ليصبح منارة فنية تجمع بين العروض المسرحية والموسيقية والأوبرالية، ويجذب عشاق الفن من كل مكان.
صُمم المبنى على الطراز المعماري الأيوني اليوناني على يد المهندس الفرنسي الشهير جورج بارك، وقد استُوحي تصميمه المعماري من تصميم دار أوبرا فيينا بالنمسا، ومسرح الأوديون في باريس، وقد قام بتزيينه بزخارف أوروبية كلاسيكية الطابع.
كان أول عرض مسرحي قُدم عليه أوبريت شهرزاد عام 1921.
ثم جاء عام 1962 ليحمل للمسرح اسمًا خالدًا، حين تم تغييره إلى مسرح سيد درويش، تكريمًا لرمز النهضة الموسيقية المصرية، ابن الإسكندرية، الذي غيّر شكل الغناء العربي وأعاد له روحه.
ومع مرور الزمن، احتاج هذا الصرح إلى ترميم يليق بقيمته، فأُعيد افتتاحه عام 2004 بعد تطوير شامل، ليصبح دار أوبرا الإسكندرية، ويواصل دوره كواحد من أهم مراكز الفنون في مصر والعالم العربي.
مسرح سيد درويش ليس مجرد مكان…
إنه حكاية مدينة، وصوت حضارة، وذاكرة فن لا تنتهي.

Sayed Darwish Theatre… A Memory of Art in the Heart of Alexandria
In the heart of the coastal city, the Sayed Darwish Theatre stands as a testament to over a century of creativity and culture.
This magnificent edifice was more than just a building; it was and remains a space where music breathes, and where the curtain rises to unleash the magic of art.
In 1862, one of the most important theatres of the 19th century was built on this very site. Owned by Badr El Din Qardahi, it hosted renowned artists and international troupes. After years of dedicated service, the old theatre was demolished in 1907, paving the way for a new, more magnificent dream.
In 1921, the current building opened under the name Teatro Mohamed Ali, becoming an artistic beacon that brings together theatrical, musical, and operatic performances, attracting art lovers from far and wide.
The building was designed in the Greek Ionic style by the renowned French architect Georges Parcq. Its architectural design was inspired by the Vienna State Opera in Austria and the Odéon Theatre in Paris, and it was adorned with classical European motifs.
The first theatrical performance held there was the operetta "Scheherazade" in 1921.
Then came 1962, when the theatre acquired a lasting name: it was renamed the Sayed Darwish Theatre, in honor of the icon of the Egyptian musical renaissance, the Alexandrian native who transformed Arabic song and breathed new life into it.
Over time, this edifice required restoration befitting its value. It was reopened in 2004 after a comprehensive renovation, becoming the Alexandria Opera House, and continues its role as one of the most important arts centers in Egypt and the Arab world.
