الإسكندرية... المدينة التي تُحبّها من أعماقك، ثم تكتشف أنّك لا تملك منها شيئًا سوى الحنين.
هي مدينة لا تُشبه غيرها.
حين تفتح ذراعيها لك، تُربكك بعطر البحر، بصوت الأمواج، بأسماء الشوارع العتيقة، وبالظلال التي تسكن الجدران القديمة.
وحين تفكر في مغادرتها، تشدك إليها من قلبك، كأنّك لم تعش سواها، ولم تتشكّل إلّا فيها.
في رواية "أصوات إسكندرية... في شارع ليبسيوس"، التي كتبتها الروائية اليونانية "بيرسا كوموتسي" وترجمها د. خالد رؤوف، نرافق شخصية "قسطنطين" الذي يعود إلى الإسكندرية وقد لاحقه المرض، ليكتشف أنّ المدينة التي هرب منها مرارًا هي الوحيدة التي يمكنه أن يودّع فيها كل شيء.
يذهب قسطنطين إلى الطبيب "خريستوفوروس باباستيفانوس"، وهناك يسمع الكلمات التي هزّت كيانه:
"أخشى أننا قد نكون أمام ورم خبيث."
كأنّ الزمن توقف.
كأن المدينة صمتت.
تُفتح أمامه بوابة الأسئلة الكبرى:
هل اقتربت النهاية؟
هل كان مستعدًا؟
وهل يمكن له أن يغادر هذه المدينة التي كانت، وستظل، شريكة حياته الأعمق؟
ينطلق في شوارعها – من فؤاد إلى سيزوستريس، من العطارين إلى الأزقة الشعبية – كأنّه يُودّع ملامحها، أو كأنها تحتضنه للمرة الأخيرة.
ووسط زحام الذكريات، تطلّ عليه صورة "أنجيليكي"، الفتاة التي أحبّته في صمت، والتي شاركته طفولته وصباه، ثم تركها دون وداع.
كانت تسأله دائمًا: "هل تحبّني؟"
وكان يصمت.
كان يخاف من الحب، من الالتزام، من أي شيء قد يهدد عالمه المغلق.
رحل عنها...
ثم سمع لاحقًا أنها ماتت وحيدة.
وفي لحظة مواجهة مع الخوف والندم، تتكشّف له المدينة كأنها مرآة.
الإسكندرية... المدينة التي لم ترحمه، ولم تتركه.
التي ألهمته وأوجعته، ورافقته في حياته كلها، حتى حين ظن أنه نسيها.

The Story of the Novel "Voices of Alexandria - On Lepsius Street" by Persa Koumoutsi
Alexandria... the city you love with all your heart, only to discover that you possess nothing of it but longing.
It is a city unlike any other.
When it opens its arms to you, it overwhelms you with the scent of the sea, the sound of the waves, the names of ancient streets, and the shadows that dwell within its old walls.
And when you think of leaving it, it pulls you back with all your heart, as if you have never lived anywhere else, as if you were shaped only within it.
In the novel "Voices of Alexandria... On Lepsius Street," written by the Greek novelist Persa Koumoutsi and translated by Dr. Khaled Raouf, we follow the character of Constantine, who returns to Alexandria, plagued by illness, only to discover that the city he has fled from so many times is the only place where he can bid farewell to everything.
Constantine goes to the doctor, Christophoros Papastephanos, and there he hears words that shake him to his core:
"I fear we may be dealing with a malignant tumor." It was as if time stood still.
As if the city fell silent.
The gateway to profound questions opened before him:
Was the end near?
Was he ready?
And could he truly leave this city that was, and always would be, his deepest companion?
He wandered its streets—from Fouad to Sesostris, from the perfumers to the popular alleyways—as if bidding farewell to its features, or as if it were embracing him one last time.
Amidst the throng of memories, the image of Angeliki appeared before him, the girl who loved him silently, who shared his childhood and youth, and whom he left without a word.
She always asked him, "Do you love me?"
And he would remain silent.
He was afraid of love, of commitment, of anything that might threaten his closed world.
He left her...
Then he heard later that she had died alone.
And in a moment of confrontation with fear and regret, the city unfolded before him like a mirror.
Alexandria... the city that showed him no mercy, yet never abandoned him.
The city that inspired him and pained him, that accompanied him throughout his life, even when he thought he had forgotten it.
