وتظل العديد من الأسماء محفورة في الذاكرة في عالم العلم والثقافة ، ويعتبر عالم الأثار والمؤرخ «مصطفى عبادي» واحداً من أبرز هذه الأسماء.
ولد مصطفى عبادي 10 أكتوبر 1928 في الإسكندرية ، والده هو المؤرخ عبد الحميد العبادي أستاذ التاريخ والحضارة الإسلامية وعميد كلية الآداب بجامعة الإسكندرية الأسبق.
تدرج في العديد من المناصب الأكاديمية والإدارية إلى أن حصل على درجة الأستاذية عام 1972م ، وكان عميد كلية الآداب بجامعة الإسكندرية ورئيس قسم الدراسات اليونانية الرومانية في نفس الجامعة.
استغل معظم حياته بالبحث والتوثيق والأرشفة ، وله العديد من المؤلفات والدراسات العامة من أبرزها كتاب "مكتبة الإسكندرية القديمة".
ومن أبرز إنجازاته إحياء مكتبة الإسكندرية ، حيث طرح الفكرة وعمل على تحقيقها حتى أصبحت واقعًا ، كان يؤمن يؤمن بأهمية ربط العلم بالمجتمع ، وكان له دور في العديد من المؤسسات العلمية والثقافية.
كان عضوًا بالمجمع العلمي المصري، ورئيسًا لجمعية الآثار بالإسكندرية، وعضوًا في العديد من الجمعيات واللجان العلمية الدولية والمحلية.
حصل على العديد من الجوائز والتكريمات تقديرًا لإسهاماته العلمية والثقافية، منها جائزة الدولة التقديرية في العلوم الاجتماعية وجائزة النيل.

Many names remain engraved in memory in the world of science and culture, and the archaeologist and historian Mostafa El-Abbadi is one of the most prominent among them.
Mostafa El-Abbadi was born on October 10, 1928, in Alexandria. His father was the historian Abdel Hamid El-Abbadi, a professor of history and Islamic civilization and a former dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alexandria.
He progressed through various academic and administrative positions until he obtained the rank of professor in 1972. He served as the dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alexandria and the head of the Department of Greek and Roman Studies at the same university.
He devoted most of his life to research, documentation, and archiving, and he authored numerous books and general studies, the most notable being "The Ancient Library of Alexandria."
One of his greatest achievements was reviving the Library of Alexandria. He proposed the idea and worked tirelessly to bring it to life until it became a reality. He strongly believed in linking science with society and played a key role in many scientific and cultural institutions.
He was a member of the Egyptian Scientific Academy, president of the Alexandria Archaeological Society, and a member of numerous local and international scientific associations and committees.
In recognition of his scientific and cultural contributions, he received many awards and honors, including the State Appreciation Award in Social Sciences and the Nile Award.
The legend of Egypt's history passed away on February 13, 2017.
