في عالم يمتلئ بالتاريخ والثقافة يبرز اسم «أبو بكر راتب باشا» كرمز للعطاء والتفاني ، وُلد هذا الرجل العظيم بعد آخر سنة على الحملة الفرنسية في عام 1802م في مدينة الإسكندرية.
تلقى بمدرسة "محمد على باشا" الحربية أصول القانون و علومه حتى تخرج منها و تقلد العديد من المناصب حتى صار محافظاً للإسكندرية عام 1854م.
أصبح رئيس مجلس شورى النواب بعدها بمدة سنتين، و من ثم سرداراً للجيش المصري (منصب وزير الدفاع حالياً).
عُرف عن "أبو بكر راتب باشا" حبه للأعمال الخيرية، فوهب وقفاً خيرياً مساحته 90 فداناً (و هو سوق راتب حالياً)، و قرر أن يهب بيته كذلك ليكون "دار ندوة" و الذي قد تحول إلى مدرسة خلال عهد الرئيس "جمال عبدالناصر".
تم دفن "أبو بكر راتب باشا" بعد أن توفى عام 1878م في بيته (مدرسة راتب باشا).
كان لديه حفيد و الذي أُطلق عليه "أبو بكر" تخليداً لذكرى جده، تزوج حفيده من "سلطانة عمر" و انجبا ولداً و اسمه "جميل" ؛ الفنان المعروف "جميل راتب" رحمة الله عليه.

In a world rich with history and culture, the name "Abu Bakr Ratib Pasha" stands out as a symbol of generosity and dedication. This remarkable man was born in 1802, a year after the end of the French campaign, in the city of Alexandria.
He studied the principles of law and its sciences at Muhammad Ali Pasha's Military School, from which he graduated and went on to hold numerous positions. In 1854, he became the governor of Alexandria. Two years later, he was appointed as the President of the Council of Representatives (Majlis Shura al-Nuwwab) and subsequently served as the Sardar of the Egyptian army (equivalent to the current Minister of Defense).
"Abu Bakr Ratib Pasha" was well-known for his love of charitable work. He donated a 90-acre estate as an endowment (now known as Souk Ratib) and dedicated his home to serve as a public assembly house, which was later transformed into a school during the era of President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
After his death in 1878, Abu Bakr Ratib Pasha was buried in his home, which became known as Ratib Pasha School. He had a grandson named "Abu Bakr," named in honor of his grandfather. His grandson married "Sultana Omar," and together they had a son named "Gamil"—the renowned actor Gamil Ratib, may he rest in peace.
