حديثُنا اليوم عن عالم اللغويات والأستاذ الجامعي «أحمد سليمان ياقوت» العميد الأسبق لكلية الآداب جامعة بيروت العربية.
وُلد الأستاذ الدكتور في نوفمبر عام 1936 بالإسكندرية ، حيث أنه ترعرع وتعلم بها وتسلم شهادة من الرئيس الأسبق جمال عبد الناصر في عيد العلم لتفوقه في الدراسة الثانوية وبعدها حصل على درجة الليسانس في الآداب من قسم اللغة العربية واللغات الشرقية وآدابها من جامعة الإسكندرية عام 1968 بتقدير جيد جداً مع مرتبة الشرف الثانية ، وكان أول دفعته فكلف بالعمل معيداً ، وحصل على درجة الماجستير عام 1972 بتقدير امتياز وحصل على درجة الدكتوراه في 1975 مع مرتبة الشرف الأولى في الآداب من قسم اللغة العربية واللغات الشرقية وآدابها من جامعة الإسكندرية.
ومع تفوقه وحكمته في مجاله تدرج في الوظائف من معيد إلى مدرس مساعد إلى مدرس بقسم اللغة العربية بكلية الآداب جامعة الإسكندرية وقام بالتدريس في جامعات عدة إما معاراً أو أستاذاً زائراً في جامعة الرياض وجامعة الملك فيصل وجامعة الكويت وجامعة اليمن وكليات البنات الرياض وجامعة بيروت العربية التي كان عميداً لكلية الآداب بها.
وقام بتأليف العديد من الكتب في علم النحو وغيره ومن مؤلفاته:
• كتاب النواسخ الفعلية والحرفية.
• كتاب علل منع الصرف عند النحاة.
• كتاب دراسات نحوية في خصائص ابن جني.
• كتاب عروض الخليل ما لها وما عليها.
وبعد تركه الكثير من القواعد اللغوية الهامة والمفيدة فارق الأستاذ الدكتور أحمد ياقوت الحياة في مايو 2008 وهو في عمر ال 71سنة وبقيت مؤلفاته تخلد ذكراه.

Today, we discuss the linguist and university professor, Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Yaqout, the former dean of the Faculty of Arts at the Arab University of Beirut.
Dr. Yaqout was born in November 1936 in Alexandria, Egypt, where he grew up, studied, and received an award from the former President Gamal Abdel Nasser on Science Day for his excellence in secondary school. Subsequently, he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Arts with honors from the Department of Arabic Language and Oriental Studies at Alexandria University in 1968. He was the first in his class and was appointed as a teaching assistant. He then earned his Master's degree in 1972 with distinction and his Ph.D. in 1975 with first-class honors in Arts from the same department at Alexandria University.
With his excellence and wisdom in his field, he progressed through various academic positions, from teaching assistant to assistant lecturer to lecturer in the Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University. He taught at several universities, either as a visiting professor or a guest lecturer, including the University of Riyadh, King Faisal University, Kuwait University, the University of Yemen, the Colleges for Girls in Riyadh, and the Arab University of Beirut, where he served as the dean of the Faculty of Arts.
He authored numerous books on grammar and other linguistic topics. Among his works are "The Verbal and Nominal Particles," "The Reasons for Preventing Inflection According to Grammarians," "Grammatical Studies on the Distinctive Features of Ibn Jinni," and "The Prosody of Khalil: Its Merits and Demerits."
After leaving behind a rich legacy of important and useful linguistic principles, Dr. Ahmed Yaqout passed away in May 2008 at the age of 71. His works continue to immortalize his memory.
