من أبرز الأساطير التي تحيط بمقام أبي الدرداء هي تلك المتعلقة بمسار الترام. حيث يُقال إنه في أوائل القرن العشرين، أثناء تخطيط المهندسين لإنشاء شبكة الترام في الإسكندرية، اقترح أحد المهندسين الإيطاليين إزالة المقام لتمهيد الطريق أمام الترام. ولكن، فور أن أشار المهندس بيده نحو المقام لإزالته، توقفت يده فجأة عن الحركة وأصيبت بالشلل. حاول المهندس متابعة عمله، لكن يده ظلت ثابتة بلا حركة. فطلب العفو من صاحب المقام، وعادت يده إلى حالتها الطبيعية. بعدها، قرر المهندس تعديل المسار ليجعل الترام يلتف حول المقام. ومنذ تلك اللحظة، أصبح المقام شاهدًا على تلك الحكاية الشهيرة التي تؤكد بركات صاحب المقام على من يحاول أن يمسه بضرر.
إحدى الأساطير المتداولة الأخرى عن مقام أبي الدرداء تتحدث عن حدث وقع أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية. في عام 1942، وخلال القصف الجوي الذي تعرضت له الإسكندرية من قبل القوات الألمانية، انفجرت قنبلة ضخمة في المدينة، وكان من الممكن أن تدمرها بالكامل. لكن فجأة، خرج طيف أبي الدرداء من المقام، وأمسك بالقنبلة بيديه وألقاها في مكان بعيد، مما حال دون تدمير المدينة. وتذكر الحكاية أن الخواجة اليوناني الذي شاهد المشهد قد أسلم بعدما رأى ما حدث، حيث اعتبره حدثًا خارقًا أنقذ المدينة من الدمار.
ومنذ تلك اللحظة، أصبح مقام أبي الدرداء في الإسكندرية مرتبطًا بالكثير من الأساطير الشعبية التي تروي قصصًا عن بركاته. يتوافد البعض من أهل المدينة والزوار لزيارة المقام والدعاء، معتقدين في قصصه. ورغم أن هناك احتمالًا كبيرًا أن يكون أبو الدرداء مدفونًا في دمشق، فإن الضريح في الإسكندرية يُعتبر تكريمًا له من أهل المدينة، ليظل شاهدًا على ارتباطه التاريخي بالمنطقة.

It is said that in the early 20th century, during the planning of the tram network in Alexandria, one of the Italian engineers suggested removing the shrine to make way for the tram’s path. However, as soon as the engineer pointed his hand toward the shrine to indicate its removal, his hand suddenly stopped moving and became paralyzed. The engineer attempted to continue his work, but his hand remained immobile. He then sought forgiveness from the guardian of the shrine, and his hand returned to its normal state. In 1942, during the aerial bombardment of Alexandria by German forces, a massive bomb exploded in the city, and it could have destroyed it entirely. However, suddenly, the apparition of Abu Darda appeared from the shrine, grabbed the bomb with his hands, and threw it to a distant location, preventing the city’s destruction. The story recounts that a Greek merchant who witnessed the scene converted to Islam after witnessing the event, considering it a miraculous act that saved the city from devastation.
Since that time, the shrine of Abu Darda in Alexandria has been associated with numerous popular legends recounting stories of his blessings. Many locals and visitors come to the shrine to pray, believing in these stories. Although it is highly likely that Abu Darda is buried in Damascus, the shrine in Alexandria is regarded as a tribute to him from the city’s people, serving as a testament to his historical connection to the area.
